House Plan Ideas

This “study help” should help you identify features of a design that are essential for the way you want to live on.

1. Find LEADING Door.

It’s marked simply with door swings, or “Entry” “Foyer,” or even”Entry Gallery”. If leading door opens right to the living or eating out space there’s often no notation, just the entranceway swing. Door swings track the swing of the entranceway in and out — good to bear in mind as you think about furniture placement. Slipping doors are mentioned much less swings but as slender lines parallel to — but slimmer than — the type of the wall.

2. Psychologically Walk Through THE PROGRAM.

From leading door go to the kitchen, living room or living room and then to the bedrooms. Imagine opening all the gates on the program. Will there be a graceful easy, and efficient flow between rooms and spots?

Furniture on the plan helps give scale to each space. Amenities are important if the traffic stream is awkward the home will not live pleasantly. Think about how exactly the kitchen connects to the dining room or family room, where most people live.

3. Gauge The Car port Entry.

Follow the path from garage to kitchen. This is the way most people enter in a house; circulation should be clear and easy without limited corners so coming in with groceries or other items is really as convenient as is feasible.

4. Note Room Measurements.

These are usually included in the floor plan but on sometimes the measurements are detailed on the Plan Detail Site under the tab “More Plan Information.” Compare the stated dimensions to your own experience of comfortable room sizes. Do this by calculating the width, duration, and height of one or two of the rooms you’re residing in now, or of rooms you prefer.

5. Smoke Out The Fireplace.

Is there room for furniture around it? I love the way the great room fireplace in modern prairie style plan 48-255 is part of any wall with built-in storage for press and books.

A fireplace too near a doorway is not so useful.

6. Search for Storage space.

Are the closets enough and where they have to be? Ideally, storage area areas should suit the kind of object being stored: jackets and boots in a mudroom; large cabinets for CostCo supplies, etc.,

7. Research The Stairway(s).

Is there full height over it — creating an open feel — or will it just disappear in to the ceiling, making a room feel small and cramped. The stair in Plan 454-14 rises in what’s, in effect, a large light well, brightening encompassing spaces.

8. Watch Window Position.

Home windows on two edges of a room balance daylight and develop a spacious feeling; house windows on just one single side of a room develop a cave-like sense and promote glare. Windows set high in a wall can provide daylight while preserving privacy; however an area with these high glass windows, categorised as clerestories, will feel limited and boxy if it generally does not also have lower house windows on another wall for views.
