House Plan Ideas

This “study aid” should help you identify top features of a design that are essential for the way you want to live on.

1. Find LEADING Door.

It’s often marked simply with door swings, or “Entry” “Foyer,” or even”Entry Gallery”. If the front door opens directly to the living or eating space there’s often no notation, just the entranceway swing. Door swings track the swing of the door in and out — good to bear in mind as you see furniture placement. Sliding doors are known not as swings but as skinny lines parallel to — but thin than — the line of the wall.

2. Psychologically Walk Through The Plan.

From leading door go to the kitchen, living room or great room and then to the bedrooms. Imagine starting all the gates on the program. Will there be a graceful easy, and successful stream between rooms and spots?

Furniture on the program helps give level to each space. Amenities are important but if the traffic movement is awkward the house won’t live pleasantly. Think about how exactly the kitchen connects to the dining area or living room, where most people live.

3. Gauge The Storage Entry.

Follow the road from car port to kitchen. This is actually the way most people enter in a house; blood flow should be clear and easy without restricted corners so coming in with groceries or other items is really as convenient as you possibly can.

4. Note Room Proportions.

They are usually contained in the floor plan but on Houseplans.com sometimes the measurements are detailed on the program Detail Web page under the tab “More Plan Information.” Compare the detailed proportions to your own experience of comfortable room sizes. Do this by measuring the width, span, and height of 1 or two of the rooms you’re surviving in now, or of rooms you prefer.

5. Smoke Out The Fireplace.

Is there room for furniture around it? I love what sort of great room fireplace in modern prairie style plan 48-255 is part of a wall structure with built-in storage space for marketing and books.

A fireplace too near a doorway is not very useful.

6. Search for Storage space.

Are the closets sufficient and where they have to be? Ideally, storage areas should suit the sort of thing being stored: coats and boots in a mudroom; large shelves for CostCo products, etc.,

7. Review The Stairway(s).

Will there be full height over it — creating an wide open feel — or would it just disappear in to the ceiling, making an area feel small and cramped. The stair in Plan 454-14 rises in what is, in effect, a sizable light well, brightening bordering spaces.

8. Watch Window Placement.

Home windows on two factors of an area balance daylight and develop a spacious feeling; house windows on just one side of an area generate a cave-like sense and promote glare. House windows set high in a wall can offer daylight while protecting privacy; however a room with these high house windows, often called clerestories, will feel tight and boxy if it does not also have lower house windows on another wall for views.
