House Plan Tips

This “study aid” should help you identify features of a design that are essential for the way you want to reside in.

1. Find LEADING Door.

It’s proclaimed simply with door swings, or “Entry” “Foyer,” or even”Entry Gallery”. If leading door opens right to the living or eating space there’s often no notation, just the entranceway golf swing. Door swings trace the swing of the door in and out — good to bear in mind as you see furniture placement. Sliding doors are known much less swings but as thin lines parallel to — but slimmer than — the line of the wall.

2. Psychologically Walk Through THE PROGRAM.

From leading door go directly to the kitchen, living room or living room and then to the sleeping rooms. Imagine opening all the doors on the program. Will there be a graceful easy, and effective movement between rooms and spots?

Furniture on the plan helps give size to each space. Amenities are important if the traffic move is awkward the home will not live perfectly. Think about how the kitchen links to the dining area or living room, where most people live.

3. Gauge The Garage Entry.

Follow the path from storage to kitchen. This is the way most people enter in a house; blood flow should be clear and easy without restricted corners so coming in with groceries or other items is as convenient as is feasible.

4. Note Room Proportions.

They are usually contained in the floor plan but on Houseplans.com sometimes the measurements are outlined on the program Detail Webpage under the tabs “More Plan Information.” Compare the outlined measurements to your own connection with comfortable room sizes. Do this by calculating the width, length, and height of 1 or two of the rooms you’re residing in now, or of rooms you like.

5. Smoke Out The Fire place.

Is there room for furniture around it? I love the way the great room fire place in modern prairie style plan 48-255 is part of an wall membrane with built-in safe-keeping for multimedia and books.

A fireplace too near to a doorway is not very useful.

6. Search for Safe-keeping.

Will be the closets enough and where they have to be? Ideally, storage area areas should suit the kind of thing being stored: jackets and boots in a mudroom; large cabinets for CostCo items, etc.,

7. Review The Stairway(s).

Will there be full elevation over it — creating an available feel — or should it just disappear into the ceiling, making an area feel small and cramped. The stair in Plan 454-14 goes up in what is, in effect, a large light well, brightening encircling spaces.

8. Watch Window Location.

Glass windows on two edges of an area balance daylight and build a spacious feeling; home windows on just one side of a room create a cave-like sense and promote glare. Glass windows set saturated in a wall provides daylight while protecting privacy; however a room with these high glass windows, often called clerestories, will feel limited and boxy if it generally does not likewise have lower glass windows on another wall structure for views.
