House Plan Ideas

This “study help” should help you identify top features of a design that are important for how you want to live on.

1. Find The Front Door.

It’s often designated simply with door swings, or “Entry” “Foyer,” or even”Entry Gallery”. If leading door opens right to the living or dining space there’s often no notation, just the entranceway swing. Door swings track the swing action of the door in and out — good to bear in mind as you see furniture placement. Slipping doors are noted much less swings but as thin lines parallel to — but thinner than — the type of the wall.

2. Emotionally Walk Through THE PROGRAM.

From the front door go directly to the kitchen, living room or living room and then to the bedrooms. Imagine beginning all the entry doors on the program. Is there a graceful easy, and reliable movement between rooms and spots?

Furniture on the plan helps give scale to each space. Amenities are important if the traffic flow is awkward the home won’t live easily. Think about how exactly the kitchen links to the dining area or living room, where most people live.

3. Gauge The Garage Entry.

Follow the path from storage area to kitchen. This is actually the way most people go into a house; circulation should be clear and easy without restricted corners so to arrive with groceries or other items is as convenient as you can.

4. Note Room Proportions.

These are usually contained in the floor plan but on Houseplans.com sometimes the measurements are detailed on the Plan Detail Webpage under the tabs “More Plan Information.” Compare the outlined dimensions to your own connection with comfortable room sizes. Do this by measuring the width, duration, and height of one or two of the rooms you’re surviving in now, or of rooms you prefer.

5. Smoke Out The Fireplace.

Will there be room for furniture around it? I love what sort of great room fireplace in modern prairie style plan 48-255 is part of an wall membrane with built-in storage area for advertising and books.

A fireplace too near to a doorway is not so useful.

6. Search for Storage space.

Are the closets adequate and where they have to be? Ideally, safe-keeping areas should suit the type of object being stored: jackets and boots in a mudroom; large cabinets for CostCo equipment, etc.,

7. Review The Stairway(s).

Will there be full height over it — creating an open feel — or would it just disappear in to the ceiling, which makes an area feel small and cramped. The stair in Plan 454-14 goes up in what is, in effect, a big light well, brightening bordering spaces.

8. Watch Window Placement.

Home windows on two edges of a room balance daylight and generate a spacious feeling; home windows on just one single side of a room generate a cave-like feeling and promote glare. House windows set saturated in a wall can provide daylight while conserving privacy; however an area with these high house windows, often called clerestories, will feel tight and boxy if it generally does not likewise have lower home windows on another wall structure for views.
