House Plan Tips

This “study help” should help you identify features of a design that are essential for how you want to live a life.

1. Find LEADING Door.

It’s designated simply with door swings, or “Entry” “Foyer,” or even”Entry Gallery”. If the front door opens right to the living or eating space there’s often no notation, just the door golf swing. Door swings trace the golf swing of the door in and out — good to keep in mind as you think about furniture placement. Slipping doors are mentioned much less swings but as slender lines parallel to — but thin than — the type of the wall.

2. Emotionally Walk Through THE PROGRAM.

From leading door go directly to the kitchen, living room or living room and then to the bedrooms. Imagine beginning all the gates on the program. Is there a elegant easy, and efficient move between rooms and areas?

Furniture on the plan helps give range to each space. Amenities are important but if the traffic flow is awkward the house won’t live perfectly. Think about how precisely the kitchen links to the dining area or family room, where most people live.

3. Gauge The Storage area Entry.

Follow the path from car port to kitchen. This is the way most people get into a house; flow should be clear and easy without restricted corners so to arrive with groceries or other items is really as convenient as possible.

4. Note Room Sizes.

These are usually included in the floor plan but on Houseplans.com sometimes the measurements are outlined on the program Detail Web page under the tab “More Plan Information.” Compare the detailed measurements to your own experience of comfortable room sizes. Do that by calculating the width, duration, and height of one or two of the rooms you’re moving into now, or of rooms you prefer.

5. Smoke Out The Fire place.

Is there room for furniture around it? I like the way the great room fire place in modern prairie style plan 48-255 is part of any wall membrane with built-in storage area for marketing and books.

A fireplace too near a doorway is not very useful.

6. Search for Safe-keeping.

Will be the closets satisfactory and where they have to be? Ideally, storage areas should suit the type of object being stored: jackets and boots in a mudroom; large racks for CostCo items, etc.,

7. Review The Stairway(s).

Is there full height over it — creating an open feel — or would it just disappear in to the ceiling, making a room feel small and cramped. The stair in Plan 454-14 increases in what is, in effect, a large light well, brightening encompassing spaces.

8. Watch Window Positioning.

Windows on two edges of an area balance daylight and develop a spacious feeling; house windows on just one single side of an area generate a cave-like sense and promote glare. House windows set high in a wall can offer daylight while protecting privacy; however an area with these high windows, often called clerestories, will feel tight and boxy if it generally does not likewise have lower glass windows on another wall structure for views.
